Fun Ways to Celebrate Family Holidays on A Limited Budget

Fall is a beautiful time of year when the leaves are turning gorgeous shades of yellow, brown and gold. The cool breeze has arrived inviting toddlers and preschoolers to enjoy the great outdoors in a comfortable temperature for playgrounds and neighborhood parks. In October infants to adults will dress in fun costumes for Halloween and Fall Harvest. In November the holidays will continue with the Thanksgiving treats and we will top off the holidays in December leading to a New Year’s celebration.

While the celebrations are fun, especially for preschool children, the cost of purchasing costumes, toys, and decorations, and extra food can be challenging to a family whose budget is already stretched.

Here are a few ideas to help loving parents who seek creative ways to enjoy the fun while managing a limited budget:

  • Contact Kids ‘R’ Kids of Charlotte for information about special events. We love to have fun events for children and families. Be sure to check for our special events, celebrations and other fun activities at our center for your child to enjoy.
  • Make your own costumes. If you plan to celebrate Halloween, consider a costume-making day at home. There are many creative ideas for making your own costume using normal household items. Your children will also enjoy the time together.
  • Make your own treats. Instead of buying or ordering food, have a cooking day and allow your child to assist with making the meal.
  • Join another family and share the responsibilities. Your meal will be less costly if you share the fun with another family.
  • Discuss your budget with your children. Discuss your family financial goals with your child. If you are saving for a large purchase, recovering from a loss of income, or trying to eliminate debt, help your child understand your desire to balance fun and responsibility. Try to talk on a level your child understands without imposing any stress on your child.
  • Be creative. Preschool children can enjoy the simplest fun. Laugh, play, and enjoy thinking of creative ways you can bring a smile to your child’s face for the upcoming holidays.
  • Substitute. There may be a purchase or activity that you decide against. If so, think of ways to replace the activity or event with another more affordable substitution or program.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Charlotte, we love to make learning fun. That’s why our curriculum is designed for children to learn indoors and outdoors. We take every opportunity to create a fun and engaging learning environment for infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
