From infants and toddlers, to preschool children and beyond, guarding young children from colds and sniffles is always a challenge for caring parents. During the cold winter months, parents dress their children in coats, hats, and gloves hoping to protect them from the chill in the air. Some parents spend valuable time preparing healthy meals to build their child’s immune system so they can resist exposure to germs and illness.

As you take steps to protect your child, consider these simple recommendations to help guard your child from colds and sniffles.

  • Make sure your child eats nutritious meals. Prepare plenty fruit, vegetables, and protein options for your child to enjoy. Avoid excessive sweets and fast food meals with little nutritional value.
  • Make sure your child gets plenty of rest. Children require adequate sleep for their growing and developing body. Sleep also helps keep your child healthy and alert while learning in preschool.
  • Teach your child proper hand washing. Demonstrate appropriate hand washing technique using soap and warm water.
  • Discuss key hand washing times with your child. Talk about the importance of hand washing before meals, after bathroom breaks, after playing outside, and after playing with pets.
  • Always carry hand wipes or sanitizer to clean your child’s hands when soap and water are not available.

Whether your child is in daycare, childcare, preschool, or at home, it’s important to follow steps to keep your child healthy minimizing the risks of colds and sniffles. Help your child make healthy habits fun by making up silly hand washing songs and creating bedtime routines.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Charlotte, we make learning fun with songs, music, technology and much more.
